Club Nights

Club nights are held on Friday evenings in the fourth and first terms of the Indooroopilly State School year. In most years, club nights begin on either the last Friday of September or the first Friday in October and continue until around the end of March. The Club's timetable for each season will be published in advance on this website and in the Club Member handbook.

Swimmers need to be there by 6:15 pm to nominate. If people nominate on time, events get under way at around 6:30. Club nights are mostly over by 8:15.

What events can I swim in?

In each week of the regular season, swimmers are invited to swim in events in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly, over 25 or 50 metres. In order to qualify for 50 metre events, swimmers must generally achieve the following qualifying times over 25 metres on two club nights:

STROKE TIME
25m Freestyle 23 seconds or under
25m Breaststroke 28 seconds or under
25m Backstroke 27 seconds or under
25m Butterfly 25 seconds or under

New swimmers to the club are asked to compete over 25 metres, unless qualifying times can be provided from other sources, together with evidence such as QSA and BSA meet times or previous club times.

At the end of the evening, an event is held over 100 metres in a nominated stroke or a medley.

Friendly volunteers ready for your nominationsHow do I nominate?

You nominate in person, by attending the nominations desk in the grandstand at the deep end of the pool.

Competing for trophies.

Club swimmers compete for trophies based on participation and improvement over the course of the season.

How are the rules enforced?

Club swims are run in accordance with the international rules of swimming and swimmers in 50 metre or longer events may be disqualified for failing to comply with them.  However, swimmers in 25 metre events with illegal technique may have a 2 second penalty added to their time.

Canteen staff selling goodies to club members

Canteen

A canteen operates on club nights, providing burgers, sausages, snacks and drinks at reasonable prices.

Can I drop my child off and come back later?

Children must be under the supervision of a parent or guardian at all times. If a child wishes to swim but a parent/carer is unable to attend, they must arrange for another adult, who knows the child, to be responsible for the child.  The club does not accept responsibility for any child, either in the pool complex or travelling to and from the pool.

How can I help out?

Club nights can only run with the help of volunteers.  Volunteering roles include canteen helpers, time keepers, referees, starters, marshalls, announcers, and time recorders.  Volunteering is not that scary, there will always be an experienced official to support you and it can be a great way to get to know more about swimming. If you are interesting in lending your support send us an email and we will fill you in.
