Robert Cusack is the Director of Coaching at Indooroopilly Swimming. Rob was born into a swimming family in 1950.Coached first by his father and then by his uncle, Arthur Cusack, Rob was an Australian open butterfly champion and represented Australia at the 1968 Olympics, where he was a finalist in the 100 butterfly and a bronze medallist as part of the 4 x 100 metre freestyle relay team.
Rob joined Indooroopilly Swimming as its coach in 1977 and has guided the Club and its swimmers through its development ever since.
Rob says finds expression and fulfilment in helping young people or older people extend themselves, and push the boundaries of personal development. "I'm here for all, the weak to the elite, to see each one extend, endure, challenge and grow. To me, Indooroopilly is not just a job, it's a family".
Simon Cusack
Simon Cusack started competitive swimming at the age of 6 and progressed to Queensland representative and National finalist. He has been coaching at Indooroopilly since 1999 and has been head performance coach at Indooroopilly since 2001.
Simon has been selected as a National Youth Squad Coach and has coached on Senior National Teams since 2007. In 2009, Simon was selected as one of the official National Team Coaches for the FINA World Championships in Rome.
Simon is dedicated to teaching the life skills of teamwork, commitment, sacrifice and goal setting, and firmly believes that "swimmers go on to succeed in life, as they have learnt to deal with both triumph and disaster. They will never be too afraid to have a go and have learnt how to pick themselves up again if things don't go as planned the first time. They are the kind of people we need more of in the modern world".
