Swimmer Development PathwaysLEARN TO SWIMUsually 2 x 30 minute lessons/week. Children are introduced to all strokes with the objective of teaching self control in the aquatic environment and acquiring an appropriate degree of self control. Children are graded into classes of similar standard and we endeavour to use the same teacher for each class for the whole term to ensure continuity of learning. Once the student can swim 25 metres effectively in most strokes, he or she is ready to progress to the next level. IMPROVERS3x30 minute lessons/week In these classes, the objective is to continue stroke development. Children are further instructed in diving, tumble turns, and stream lining. Some endurance training is introduced. JUNIOR OTTERS3x45 min lessons/week. This squad is aimed at young swimmers (7 years and over) who can swim multiple laps and who wish to learn the skills required to participate in club nights and junior carnivals. OTTERS DEVELOPMENT SQUADUp to 5x1 hour lessons/week. The next progression for primary school aged children. This squad has a heavy focus on technique and stroke development. STATE DEVELOPMENT SQUADUp to 6x1.5 hour sessions This squad is aimed at those swimmers in the later years of primary school/early high school who have a good level of technique and who may wish to compete at a Regional and/or State Level . A further improvement in technique and fitness are the main objectives of this squad. INTERMEDIATE SQUAD5-7x2 hour sessions per week. This squad is aimed at High School students who's training goals include achieving State and National Age qualifying times. This level swimmer must display a good work ethic and desire to learn and maintain effective training and self-management skills. SENIOR SQUAD8-10 sessions per week. This squad is dedicated to the development of high performance swimmers. To apply swimmers must have achieved National open qualifying time or better. Swimmers in this group undertake a scientifically designed program incorporating pool training/gym work and the use of a recovery centre. Squad members include both current and aspiring Australian Team members. |
